One night last week, realizing I still had not had a chance to go to the grocery store and we had absolutely nothing to cook (I had served rice and vegetables for dinner the night before we were so cleaned out!) that I suggested we might need to go out for dinner…Karl graciously concurred.
He took us to an authentic Thai restaurant. We were all a bit nervous…he has done extensive traveling in the Far East, not so for the rest of us….he promised not to order anything ‘weird’. We entered this tiny restaurant as the only customers were leaving, so the majority of the meal we were the only patrons….it was only about 5 p.m. so still early. There was one man answering the phone, greeting, seating, and serving the customers (us). I assume there was someone in the back cooking the food, but who knows? He handled doing everything else solo so well, maybe he was a magician in the kitchen too! We ended up having three different items to share…Pad Thai, Coconut Curry w/rice, and Chicken Lo Mein….the last two had official names but I have no idea now what they were. First came a rice noodle soup that was very good…we didn’t order it, it just came with our meal. The kids were very cautious but were up for the adventure. The broth was delicious…Emma even loved it! Once our main dishes arrived we all tasted a bit of each dish, and of course we each had our favorites. All through the meal Corbin kept saying how much he loved everything (he’s our big eater around here) and as we were leaving he made a declaration: “I am very pleased.” Too funny! It’s good to know they are now at the age where we can take them out for knew experiences and not have to fight with them to try something….we may have to fight with them to get a bite ourselves instead!
