Each Day Holds A New Discovery

Homeschooling allows me to discover my love of learning, in myself and in others, all over again every day! I remember watching my cousin Andrea figuring out how to open and close a zip top bag at the age of 2. It’s not something you really think about, but have you considered how difficult that task can actually be? My 8 year old still has trouble at times with that. Actually, depending on the package, I still have trouble with it! 🙂 Watching my cousin was ‘the moment’….you know, the one you look back on and say, “That was it. That was the day I found my passion.” I was amazed at her concentration, her ability, her patience.

For a while I forgot what I wanted my ‘job’ to be, and I struggled with staying home for a long time. However, since God called me to begin homeschooling 6 years ago, He has reminded me on a daily basis why I love children so much and the joy it brings to facilitate their learning. I do not consider myself a teacher, per se…..but I do help them find ways to learn. And I love it!

Here are some photos of learning that took place with Emma just this morning.

When I arrived at the table, Emma already had all the letters in place, except the ‘a’ was an ‘o’. I helped her find the correct letter and had her put it in the right spot.

Emma told me she wanted to spell Gus, which is her cousin’s name. I spelled it for her (to the left of the tray, not visible in this photo) and she proceeded to find the letters.

We put his name on the right so she could see it better and try to duplicate it.

She put the letters in place.

Then rearranged them.

We ended up with the correct spelling in the end, with me only telling her when it was wrong.

I just LOVE that I am home with my children and that I get to be a part of all that they are learning!
