Hard at work

My husband has been hard at work over his Christmas vacation. When we moved here in July, we knew we had several projects we needed to complete as soon as feasible. We had not anticipated that his job would have him traveling quite as much as he was in the fall. Our projects have taken longer than we had hoped.

However, Karl was able to complete the boys’ closets, and they look awesome! Doors have since been added, as well as the trim for both.

And, since last Friday, Karl has succeeded in moving the boys into the attic room, tearing out the carpet in their room, laying their vinyl ‘wood’ floor, and moving them back in. They still have to get some of their things back to their room, but they slept in their room again last night. We are all amazed out how quickly it all went once he was able to be here and concentrate on the work!

He has since moved on to the basement, which is where his true interest lies. My husband has always wanted a basement home theater and his dreams are finally coming true! He has begun gluing foam board insulation to the walls and framing in walls. His goal is to have much of it completed as possible by the end of May, when we will be hosting a large family gathering. That way we will have increased space for sleeping and hanging out for all who visit. He is hoping for something like this:

He’ll likely have to settle for something a bit less grand. ๐Ÿ˜‰

My favorite part will be the crafting area. We will have a room where we can paint, color, do play doh projects, etc., without being overly concerned about messing up floors or tables. It should make for an easy cleanup, especially once he has the kitchenette in. ๐Ÿ™‚

What have you been doing over Christmas vacation? What projects do you have planned for the New Year?

  1. Awesome! Sounds like a ton of work. We had a fixer-upper when our kids were little. I can’t even imagine all that work now. How did we do it? Good for you

Thanks! We are very happy with the results. My husband says he is really sore now, though! LOL
